Mascoutah Chili Cookoff
It's time to enter Fall Fest's Chili Cookoff

Although it's still a month away, it's not too early to start getting ready for the Mascoutah Fall Fest's Chili Cookoff.
The Cookoff is one of the big events every year at Fall Fest and hundreds of people usually participate in the sampling of the dozens of chili entries. It will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15th.
The entry fee this year is $25. Entrants must provide their own equipment, but all bowls and spoons are provided. There also will be prize money and trophies. First place wins $500, second place $250 and third place $100. There also is a $100 award for the People's Choice winner.
Rules for this year's contest are as follows:
• Chili can be prepared on site or off.
• Chili must be ready to be served by 11 a.m.
• You must provide your own heat source, tent, table, etc. No electricity will be provided.
• You must provide your own trash can. Bags will be provided.
• Minimum of five gallons of chili per contestant.
• No condiments other than crackers are allowed. Chili must be served as prepared.
• Winners will be selected by a group of judges for first, second, and third place. There will be a "People's Choice" award selected by those purchasing a chili pass and voting for the chili they like the best.
• Votes will be counted at 3:30 p.m. Winners announced at 4 p.m.
• There can be no distribution of beverages.
• Only persons who purchase chili tasting wrist bands are to sample chili.
• At approximately noon, a sample of your chili will be picked up in a container (provided) to betaken to the judges table. Identity of the chili will be concealed.
